For the last 200 years, from 1807 - 2006, it has been illegal to use the country's military against it's own citizens. But this has changed with the recent amendments to the Patriot acts. So now, the young men and women of the Army will have to arrest anyone that the president points the finger at.
According to the Army Times website, we are now officially living in a police state.

A "police state" is a society which obeys the laws created from political control exerted by means of a force which operates outside the boundaries normally imposed by a constitutional republic.[1] In other words when a society's justice system supports the activities of a police force that operates illegally with respect to the law of the land, this is a police state.
