Professor Norman Finkelstein will speak on Thursday,December 11, 2008, on Israel and Palestine, Roots ofConflict, Prospects for Peace. 6:30 pm at Ford Auditorium,Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland. This event isfree and open to the public. Norman Finkelstein, a vocal critic of Israeli policiesconcerning the treatment of Palestinians. In May, 2008, Dr,Finkelstein was detained when he arrived at Ben Gurionairport in Tel Aviv and interrogated for 24 hours, deportedand banned from entering Israel for 10 years. \"I\'ve alwayssupported a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders.I\'m not an enemy of Israel. I did my best to provideabsolutely candid and comprehensive answers to all thequestions put to me,\" he told an Israeli newspaper followinghis deportation to Amsterdam. Norman G. Finkelstein received his doctorate in 1988 fromthe Department of Politics at Princeton University. For manyyears he taught political theory and the Israel-Palestineconflict. He is currently an independent scholar.Finkelstein has written five books, which have beentranslated into more than 40 foreign editions: * Beyond Chutzpah: On the misuse of antiSemitism and theabuse of history 2005; expanded edition, 2008 * The Holocaust Industry: Reflections on the Exploitation ofJewish Suffering Verso, 2000; expanded edition, 2003 * Image and Reality of the Israel-Palestine Conflict: ANation on Trial (with Ruth Bettina Birn), 1998 * The Rise and Fall of Palestine: A personal account of theintifada years, 1996 Professor Finkelstein\'s new book, A Farewell to Israel: Thecoming breakup of American Zionism, will be published in2009.
