Last Saturday, November 23rd, over 150 friends, family, community members and concerned activists turned out to portest the most recent killing by Cleveland police. Stanley Strnad, in his mid-twenties, was shot down and killed by four bullets to the back by officer Daniel Jopek the Friday before. Strnad was unarmed and was trying to get away from a cop who, as friends and family members spoke to at the rally, had it out for him.
Family members spoke into a bullhorn to address the grieving and angry crowd. At the spot where it happened, E. 152nd and Park Grove, Stanley's family made it clear this was a classic case of police brutality and cold blooded murder. They told the stories of how just recently this same cop had taken money from Stanley and was constantly harassing him. They demanded Jopek be fired from the force and locked up.
This wasn't even Jopek's first killing, however. In June of 2002 Jopek shot and killed another man, Keith Moore, on Lakeshore in the same neighborhood. Is it really a surprise anyone who knew his track record would try and run from him?
The October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality helped the family organize the protest. More actions are being considered as well. Some want to start a campaign to get Jopken fired and prosecuted. For more innformation or to get involved contact October 22nd @ 216-491-4595.

How can that man walk into a court room and plea not guilty? As far as I see it, this cop is a typical, power-hungry, probably picked on as a kid, vengeful dumbshit. I can't believe that Stan is gone and I grieve for his daughter, who will never know her daddy. That cop affected many lives with those bullets; he clearly crossed the line. I don't know about anyone else, but I've never been so scared of someone RUNNING AWAY FROM ME that I felt the need to kill. What an F-ing coward. If there are any "good cops" out there, I urge you to turn your back on this guy!

How irresponsible...get the facts please...they are available with little effort on your part. Why wouldn't the Prosecutor prosecute the officer? Oh, I know, because they're all in it together, right? Thought so. GET THE FACTS FOR A CHANGE AND STOP PERPETRATING THIS ANTI-COP BULLSHIT.

Yeah, what a crazy idea. You'd think that cops and prosecutors both work for the same city in the same department (law enforcement). You'd also almost think the police and prosecurors work together on a daily basis (even have a working relationship).
I mean, it's not like the police and prosecurors need each other to succeed at their respective roles.
Oh wait; they do.
And it's not like a police brutality case would make BOTH the city and police look bad, hurting each others credibility.
Oh wait; it does.
Prosecutors have to deal with the city and police every single day. They have to maintain a "positive" relationship so they can "work together" effectively. If you think our judicial system is based on justice and not politics than I really feel bad for how naive you are. Prosecutors don't get elected by seeming "tough on police".
An unarmed man was murdered, and he's one of over a dozen unarmed black men murdered by Cleveland area police in the last 2 years. Meanwhile, prosecutors and police have countless "parties" throughout the year where police and prosecutors mingle and network with each other.
The prosecutors will defend the police at every length unless they think the public backlash will be too great. It's just common knowledge.
Oh well

Stanley Strnad screwed with anybody who looked at him crosseyed. I was stuck going to school with him and anybody who didn't eat the shit he dished out on a daily basis got rocks chucked at them and had to watch their backs. Quit painting him as some martyr. Cops don't kill people for no reason!!

All the trouble with Police and Drugs, He got what he had coming. He had a very long police record, and never cleaned his act up. He better off dead. His brother John is just like him. You think he would clean his act up seeing what happen to his brother.
