We Are #1 March at VP Debate
by vote for yourself Tuesday, Sep. 21, 2004 at 1:13 AM

At the VP debate, there will be four feeder marches converging at the free speech zone at CWRU. Here is the flyer for the We Are #1 March, focusing on the needs of the poorest big city in the US.

Print and distribute this flyer! There are other marches that will appeal more to activists -- this one should draw more Cleveland residents who think the situation in this city and country isn't alright!

flyer

The information on the flyer:
October 5th -- We Are #1 March on the VP Debate
>6:30 - Meet at E.120th & Euclid (@ the 120/Euclid stop on the Red Line)
7:00 - March on VP Debate
7:30 - Rally at Euclid & Adelbert (@ the E.111th Street Block)

Full text of flyer:
WE ARE #1!

  • Cleveland #1 in Poverty!
“More than 31% of population below poverty line”
  • Cleveland #3 in Racial Segregation!
“Cleveland in top 5 for over 20 years”
  • Cleveland #1 in Child Poverty!
“Over 51% of Cleveland’s children live in poverty”

Unemployment High, Services Low!
- Large growth in Home Foreclosures!
- Shelters fall to worst conditions in a decade!
- Homelessness increasing!

The Vice Presidential Debate is in Cleveland, but will any of the candidates talk about issues important to the poorest city in the U.S? No -- both the dems and the republicans are representatives for the owners of the places we work, not for those that work there (John Edwards, Kerry’s VP, supports tax breaks for his own company, while Dick Cheney hands out no-bid contracts to his company, Haliburtotn). The candidates know what’s important to us, but they waste our time talking about their military records! They need to be told this isn’t acceptable, and the debate needs to be focused on OUR needs!

Questions: Are any of the candidates offering any plan for the millions out-of-work and under-served in this country? (No -- it‘s a blame game!)
How are we paying for the “war on terror”? (Cuts to Section 8, Education, TANF, Head Start, WIC, and Veterans’ Care!)

OCT 5 - Join the We Are #1 March on the VP Debate
Meet at 6:30 at E120 & Euclid (@ 120 St. Red Line stop)
March at 7pm
Rally at 7:30 at Euclid & Adelbert (at E111 Block)

"free speech zone"
by andy Tuesday, Sep. 21, 2004 at 5:48 AM

If they are marking off a "fre speech zone" then everything else is a "no-free-speech-zone and should be labelled as such.

e.g. "99% of the CWRU cmpus is a "No Free Speech Zone"

Hug a Protest Warrior- they'll be lonely

The goofs at "protest warrior" are planning to show up, and in their words ' hunt some lefties' - whatever that means. point and laugh or give them a hug (tho they'd probably claim you were assaulting them). but they'll be there to provoke - best not to feed the negativity.

Description: Operation Hail Haliburton is now official!!! Cheney and Edwards will be debating at Case Western on oct. 5th, from 9-10:30. We will be meeting at case at the Veale Convention center at 6:30 to show our support for our vice President. Please wear BusH/Cheney shirts and bring Bush signs, as well as PW signs. Please make sure you sign up so I know how many will be in attendance. Also, if you sign up, please show up. We don't want our fellow Pw's to show up as lone soldiers. The time is running out and election time will be here before you know it. Let's do as much as we can before then!!! I'll be contacting the freepers to join us as well!!! Thanks and let's hunt some lefties!!!!!!!!!
