Wow. That was the lamest thing I've ever seen. Bad things happen and the government is screwing us, but that was just a bunch of crud. Just looking at that crowd you can see that the whole confrontation was A.) desired by the protesters and B.) not a violent one. I hope everybody's jackets dried out. The horror of water. How brutal.
On the other hand, that camera can be a very powerful device when used properly. I've found that taking my gear and telling peoples stories can be a heck of a lot more powerful than a bunch of kids get dispersed by the police like that doesn't happen people after major sporting events and drunk frat boys every week. And when I say telling other peoples stories, I mean their stories, not your conspiracy and rhetoric filled version of it. My politics are to the far left. I choose to do stories on people in struggle because of that. However, I check my bias (to the best of my ability) at the door when I exit the house. Hopefully, my reporting isn't slanted --most people tune out when they suspect a bias--but my political beliefs are almost always reaffirmed with what I see and experience. Being objective is the most important thing in life. If done right, journalism is simply objective reporting.
