To commemorate International Women's Day, professor and activist Angela Davis gave a rousing and provocative speach at Oberlin College. An audio recording of her lecture, "Resistance and Power: The New Abolitionism?" can be found here.

Angela Davis spoke at the First Church in Oberlin last night (March 7, 2005) to a packed crowd of students, faculty and community members to commemorate International Women's Day. Here is an audio recording of Angela Davis' lecture "Resistance and Power: The New Abolitionism?" at Oberlin College.
Please note that there were some technical problems both in the PA for Angela Davis as well with the recording of the lecture. I've tried to adjust audio levels and filter out some of the unwanted noise - for the most part it's all pretty clear, but you will ocassionaly find yourself trying to listen to Prof. Davis over some strange whirring noises. But I promise you it's well worth it.
lack of communication

Could folks in Oberlin please spread the word up to Cleveland when things like this are happening. Many Clevelanders would've come over for it if we would have known about it. There has been a lack of communication with Oberlin for a long time that I would love to see ended.

yes, of course. we often forget there's a life outside this bubble. my humblest appologies. hopefully when IMC people come and speak at oberlin tomorrow and friday, folks here will start utilizing indymedia more. also, the departments that brought angela davis did a piss poor job publicizing at oberlin - most of us didnt know it was happening until a few days before. anyway, we'll work harder to make sure this stuff gets out.
