Early Saturday afternoon, about 40 people marched to the Lakewood Military recruitment center, with the intent of peacefully occupying, committing civil disobedience and shutting down the center.
However the recruiters who had already been warned of the protest by the police, waited till they could see the crowd coming up the street, then closed up shop and left.
The crowed rallied in front of the recruitment center as speakers talked of their friends who are now in Iraq, and friends who have died there for an unjust war.
They also explained some of the deceptive recruitment tactics used by the military.
By the time they had been there a hour, the crowd had swelled to 60 strong. People sang protest songs and were encouraged by people in passing cars constantly honking, and yelling their support.
There was no interference by the police, other than the usual plain-clothes surveillance and a sheriff’s truck parked around the corner.

Good work folks! We need to do more around the recruitment centers that only use our young for wars of greed and empire. How about Lockhead Martin next? If only one person decided to change his or her mind that day and not join the military or someone saw you there and decided to think differently about this so called war for "democracy" in Iraq you made a huge difference. Right on! Thank you all.
