Univ. of Akron Needs Improvement in Several Areas
by Library Democratization Sunday, Mar. 02, 2008 at 9:29 AM

Akron U library violating the spirit of the federal law re community access to the library facilities... 42 years ago Akron U fired 6 members of its philosophy department for taking a public stand against the war in Vietnam

Under Bush contributor Dr Luis Proenza, president of the
University of Akron as well as the Dean of Libraries, the spirit of the federal law requiring state universities receiving federal funds to
allow library access to the community has been
seriously circumscribed. Community users are confined to four computers in a dimly lit area of the library for two hours a day.

If all the computers are in use as is frequently the
case, the community member must wait (also a violation).

Millions have been spent by this university on redundant
buildings which are much emptier since under this
regime few can afford college. Tens of millions are being spent
on a sports stadium. The aggressive buying of university
area property (reminding one of primate abuser Harvard which offered one family
$4000 for its home) has increased the price of rents in
a depressed economy. The money for the sports
stadium indicates the priority of Akron U, whose library
sells many of the books it receives rather than building
an enviable collection.

There are more homeless than ever before in Akron, because
of the Bush regime's wars and support of megathief
oil, drug, war profiteer and other cartels. One froze to death
in an abandoned school bus. One was sent to the hospital
after, sleeping in a dumpster, he miraculously survived
the trash compacter's pressure. The university has
often arrested the homeless.

Every year it sells hundreds of computers. Surely some of
the many empty rooms could be made into a community
computer room.

Historically Akron U was a school attracting local residents.
There have never been the cozy welcoming lounges that
other schools offer (e.g. primate abuser Princeton whose Harvey Firestone
built his fortune on the backs of Akron sweat shop labor
and gave 1 million dollars for a Princeton library, not an Akron
one, saying Akron would always be a mill town.)

Millions more have
been spent harming rats and mice and hundreds of thousands in giving
lecture dollars to war criminals such as Henry Kissinger.

In perhaps 1966, the entire philosophy department of 6
professors was fired in a single blow for having taken a public
stand against the war in Vietnam. Since then faculty have
been less courageous.

A politics institute at the university is named after a Republican,
and its polls like those of the Univ. of Cincinnati have been
skewed in favor of the small Republican Party.

The plastics institute at the university needs to do more research
in biodegradable plastics, since the oceans of the world
are choking dolphins and pelicans on plastic which also clogs
the landfills.

While thousands of New England libraries require no ID,
Akron U requires a photo ID, a social security number, etc.

Some of the sandwich bars such as Zee's have no vegetarian
or vegan sandwiches.

University of Akron, give back to the people who have
given to you for over 100 years.
