Israel pays it forward

Israel aid to the developing world:


Peru: The First Lady of Peru, Eliane Karp de Toledo, and the Minister of Health, Fernando Ignacio Carbone Campoverde, inaugurated in Chimbote a state-of-the-art trauma room set up by MASHAV experts. The trauma room, donated by the State of Israel, is located at the Eleazar Guzman Barron Hospital in Chimbote, which offers medical services to the underprivileged population of the area. Earlier this year, Israel, through MASHAV, upgraded the dialysis unit in the Lima Medical Center, including the donation of 3 dialysis machines.

Mauritania: Construction of the Cancer Treatment Center in Nouakchott is almost finished. The project, when completed, will include donation of the facility and all necessary medical technology as well as extensive training for staff members.

Ethiopia: Medications were delivered to victims of the severe drought.

Palau: A diving expert from Israel trained local people in clinical diving problems and protocols of medical support for divers.

Ghana: A trauma center at the Komfo Anokye Medical Center in Kumasi was constructed and equipped and local staff was trained by MASHAV experts.

Costa Rica: A trauma unit was constructed and equipped and local staff trained in Cartago.

El Salvador: A dialysis unit was constructed and equipped and local staff trained in Santa Ana.

Uzbekistan and the Marshall Islands: Eye camps took place where Israeli ophthalmologists examine and treat hundreds of people and operate on scores, restoring sight.

Georgia: Following the earthquake that struck Tbilisi in May 2002, a donation by MASHAV of medical equipment, including antibiotics, bandages, surgical gloves and more, was presented to the capital’s Mayor, Ivane Zodelava.

Chile: Israel provided housing assistance to the city of Arica, hit by severe floods and strong winds which left over 1500 houses roofless. Arica is twin-sister with Eilat.

Czech Republic: Following disastrous floods in the capital city of Prague, Israel delivered electric pumps, baby food, blankets, sacks for sand and sealing materials.

Tanzania: Following the train crash occurred near Dodoma which left over 200 people dead and many injured, Israel donated medical equipment including 54,130 first aid kits.

Democratic Republic of Congo: At the end of January 2002, after the devastating eruption of the Nyirangongo Volcano in Goma/Kivu, two doctors were dispatched from Israel with two and a half tons of medicines donated by MASHAV in cooperation with the Emergency Department of Israel’s Health Ministry. Upon request, Israel also delivered medical equipment to Kinshasa hospitals.

Micronesia: Responding to an urgent call for aid from Micronesia following a devastating tropical storm in July, MASHAV provided funds to purchase water purification devices and medical equipment.
