Military Mobilization? DRAFT? Obama–YES; McCain–Yes; Rep. Rangel (D-NY)–Yes!
by Paul J. Landis Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008 at 5:41 PM

The country is now preparing to elect a new President and as all our citizens consider their choices, they are confronted with the numbing denial by both Obama and McCain that the Iraq war is Illegal. “Why are Obama and McCain discussing the terrifying idea of a draft” Americans are asking, when “it is your sworn constitutional duty to call for an end to this and future Illegal Wars,” and then, a draft is clearly un-necessary?

Rep. Rangel (D-NY) has been on record for a draft since November 2006:
“"There's no question in my mind that this president and this administration would never have invaded Iraq, especially on the flimsy evidence that was presented to the Congress, if indeed we had a draft and members of Congress and the administration thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm's way," Rangel said.” See note 1
Rangel admits to “flimsy evidence” for the Iraq War, yet does not call for its end. Note 1
And also “their kids from their communities would be placed in harm's way”. Are you kidding Rangel? How about the over one million of those kids from their communities that have been exposed to Depleted Uranium? Note 1
Speaking at a forum on national service September 13, 2008, at Columbia University in New York City, Obama and his Republican opponent, Senator John McCain made the following comments:
Obama: “And I think it’s important for the president to say, this is an important obligation. If we are going into war, then all of us go, not just some.” Note 2
“ But in the course of his discussion with Woodruff and Stengel, McCain repeatedly connected the imperative of “national service” with the outbreak of international crises in which an American military role would be posed. “… he said the American people could “see a whole lot of things happening in the world that’s going to require us to serve.” “ Note 2
“In an indication of the bipartisan support for the increasing militarization of American society, McCain jokingly offered to name Obama his coordinator for national service if the Republican were to win the election, and Obama reciprocated.” Note 2
None of these guys have either bothered to remind us that the Iraq War is Illegal, that it is based upon Intentional Lies by Bush and Cheney nor demanded Bush end his illegal war, Now !!
This horrific suggestion of a Draft and more illegal wars will hopefully cause all Americans to ‘Stop in their Election 2008 Planning Tracks’.
What is needed to convey the serious concerns of all Americans is a strong message and a warning to any and ALL candidates: End THIS Illegal War Now, BEFORE ELECTION 2008, or have your party come up with a new candidate!
And the message to the DNC, the RNC and any other *NC, Get this straight, ‘We the People” will not tolerate another illegal war, therefore, we will not need a draft.
