Local Residents Hold Rally, Urge Senator Sherrod Brown to Continue Strong Support for Obama’s Public Health Insurance Option Rally Will Profile Stories Of Cleveland Area Residents Struggling With Current Health Care Crisis
With the health care fight heating up in the Senate, local citizens of the Cleveland area will hold a rally in front of Senator Sherrod Brown’s office at 11:30 AM on July 9, 2009 to deliver a petition to the senator in support of President Obama’s health care plan, including a strong public health insurance option. Senator Brown has been a steadfast supporter of President Obama’s plan and a public health insurance option, which will give Americans a better range of choices, make the health care market more competitive, and keep insurance companies honest. Last week, the Senate HELP Committee joined several committees in the House of Representatives and released a bill including the public health insurance option.
At the rally, stories from residents struggling with their own health care will be read to demonstrate why a robust public health insurance plan is critical to solve the health care crisis in Ohio. At the end of the rally, the group will deliver petitions from MoveOn members statewide in support of a strong public health insurance option. The petition text—a quote from President Obama--reads:
“I strongly believe that Americans should have the choice of a public health insurance option operating alongside private plans. This will give them a better range of choices, make the health care market more competitive, and keep insurance companies honest.”
